Maha Bouzid is currently a Senior Research Associate at Norwich Medical School, University of East Anglia. Her broad research interests are bacterial and parasitic zoonotic diseases. Her primary interests are the molecular biology, epidemiology, and pathogenesis of waterborne parasites, namely, Cryptosporidium and Giardia. She has a master’s in microbiology and a Ph.D. in Medical Microbiology awarded from the University of East Anglia, investigating mechanisms of virulence in Cryptosporidium species using genomic data. Her research interests have recently expanded to account for the effect of climate change, mainly on vector-borne and waterborne diseases.

Dr. Bob Bernstein is a Medical Epidemiologist (a “Disease Detective”), Public Health and Preventive Medicine thought leader, and seasoned Monitoring & Evaluation team leader with more than 30 years of experience in leading monitoring, evaluating, and improving Health, Population and Nutrition policies, programs, and practices through Health Services Research (HSR) and Health Impact Assessments, managing public-private partnerships, and providing classroom-based and on-the-job field-based training on behalf of CDC, USAID, U.N. agencies (WHO, UNICEF, UNDP, the World Bank and ADB), NGOs (Medecins Sand Frontieres), and private sector organizations (Singapore Health Services, Wyeth and Pfizer Pharmaceuticals) for developing country ministries of health in China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Senegal and Cote d’Ivoire. He has substantial experience in strengthening institutional and human resources for Public Health work, including Emergency & Disaster Preparedness & Response, and more than eight years of direct practice in HIV/AIDS-related epidemiology and policy with USAID globally and with WHO/WPRO in Asia. He served as the US CDC Resident Advisor for Indonesia and KSA Field Epidemiology Training Programs and led teams of medical experts building capacity within their Ministries of Health for investigating and solving complicated public health issues. Dr. Bernstein is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Global Health at the Emory University Rollins School of Public Health, and Adjunct Professor of Global Health at the University of South Florida College of Public Health. He is the father of 11-year-old triplets and he is fluent in the languages of Indonesia and Malaysia.

David Wroth is a Director for Underwriters Laboratories Inc., identifying opportunities to address safety issues across the globe. In this capacity, he analyzes data from disparate sources and provides a framework for analysis and prioritization of solutions to improve safe living and working environments for people. His latest initiative is the UL Safety IndexTM, an algorithm seeking to quantify global safety using publically available data. David received a Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering from Purdue University and a Masters of Business Administration from Lake Forest Graduate School of Management

Dr. Young graduated from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health as Master and Doctor of Public Health, with specialization in Epidemiology and Social Medicine. He also took a Master’s degree in Sociology from Pennsylvania State University where he studied demography, biostatistics and quantitative research methods as a doctoral candidate. His research focuses on the distribution of air toxic exposure, neighborhood health effects, and vulnerability to chronic disease and health care disparities. He holds positions as Executive Vice President for Health Policy at Cooper University Health Care and Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine of Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, where he is Director of the Center for Injury Epidemiology and Social Medicine.

Eric Plakun, MD is Associate Medical Director of the Austen Riggs Center and former Harvard Medical School clinical faculty. Editor of 2 books and author of fifty papers, he has made over a hundred scientific presentations. He is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, a member of the APA Assembly, past chair of the APA Committee on Psychotherapy by Psychiatrists, and leads its Psychotherapy Caucus. He was honored as the Outstanding Psychiatrist in Clinical Psychiatry by the Massachusetts Psychiatric Society, is a leader in organized psychiatry and an advocate for the value of psychotherapy and psychosocial treatment.

Diana Anderson currently holds the Chair of the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Bradford, UK. She obtained her first degree in the University of Wales and second degrees in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Manchester. After tutoring at the University of Sydney, Australia, she became a research worker in the Department of Cancer Studies at the University of Leeds and at the Paterson Laboratories, Christie Hospital, Manchester. In 1974, she was appointed as Head of Mutagenesis Studies at ICI's Central Toxicology Laboratory. Professor Anderson joined BIBRA International in 1981 as Head of Genetic and Reproductive Toxicology and became Assistant Director and Group Forum Co-ordinator in 1987. In 1992, she became Senior Associate and Coordinator of External Affairs at BIBRA. She has served on the editorial board of 8 international journals, has around 300 publications and edited/authored several books. She has successfully supervised 9 PhD and 2 MSc students and has been invited to speak at many international meetings and chair many symposia. She has helped establish new research laboratories in India and Korea under the auspices of the British Council and UNIDO. Funded by various international agencies, scientists from America, Australia, the Czech Republic, India, Korea, Poland, Spain and Turkey have received training under her supervision. She has organised both national and international meetings and is a member of various national and international committees, including the European Union Scientific Committee for Animal Nutrition (SCAN) and is a consultant for many international organisations, including the WHO, NATO, TWAS and the OECD.

Anil Mehta is a Clinical Reader undertaking biochemical and epidemiological research into the children’s disease cystic fibrosis (CF) with 50% time as a consultant paediatrician. His lab-based pharmacology lies at the interface between the biochemistry and physiology of epithelial barrier function. His focus is on novel drug development, analysis of health outcomes and wider rare disease policy for better informed policy making by the EU. The latter is a priority for the EU through their Rare Disease Directive that will require the NHS to plan care for all rare disease patients, where he is a tutor to the EU’s Rare Diseases Organisation - EURORDIS.

Dr. Eremeeva received her MD in biochemistry from the Russian National Research Medical University, her PhD in microbiology from the Gamaleya Research Institute, Moscow, Russia and her ScD in microbiology and cellular biology from the University of the Mediterranean, Marseilles France. Her postdoctoral studies were at the University of Maryland, School of Medicine, Baltimore, USA. She is an Associate Professor and Director of the Core Laboratory at the Jiann- Ping Hsu College of Public Health of the Georgia Southern University. She has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and conference papers on different aspects of rickettsiae and rickettsial diseases including discovery of emerging pathogens and descriptions of new rickettsioses.

David J Galton is Emeritus Professor at London University. He gained doctorates in Medicine (M.D. for work done in the USA) and in Science (D.Sc.). He has published 8 books, and more than 250 research papers on genetics of common metabolic disorders; nine students from his laboratory have become Professors. He served as consultant physician to St. Bartholomew’s Hospital and Moorfield’s Eye Hospital, London. David J Galton has served in various senior positions as the former Chairman of Clinical Science U.K, Chairman of HEART UK and Secretary to the European Atherosclerosis Society. He is an elected Fellow of 2 Royal Colleges, the Physicians (FRCP) and Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth).

Dr. Longjian Liu, MD, PhD, MSc, FAHA, is a tenured associate professor of epidemiology and biostatistics at Drexel University Dornsife School of Public Health, and associate professor of medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine, Philadelphia, PA U.S.A. He serves as an academic advisor and chair for MPH and PhD students. Dr. Liu’s research expertise is in cardiovascular disease and diabetes epidemiology with focusing on disease etiological study, the complex of multiple comorbidity, drug-diet interaction and pharmaco-epidemiology in aging, and global health. He serves as the Principal Investigator for the Study of Climate Change, Air Quality and Public Health, and the Study of Glucose-Lowering Therapy and CVD Risk Reduction in Patients with Diabetes. Dr. Liu assisted the textbook of the World Health Organization STEPwise Approach to Chronic Disease Risk Factor Surveillance. He serves on Review Panels for U.S. NIH and AHRQ, and UK MRC, and Italy Ministry of Health’s research proposals. Dr. Liu has published more than 70 articles in peer-reviewed journals, had a total Impact Factor of more than 180, and has published numerous book chapters and scholarly monographs. Dr. Liu has been named a Fellow of American Health Association since 2008.

Later on he obtained his post-graduation from National University of Cuyo with subjects Pharmacology & Biology and then started working at The Nurses School, Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences and Health, National University of Santiago del Estero, Argentina where he has continued his research. Presently he has been working at the at the Regional Hospital Dr. Ramon Carrillo, Santiago del Estero City. She is author of a book Public Health Legislation in India and Editor of a book Health Policies and Programmes in India; member of Editorial Board of reputed journals and conducting funded research projects. Her complete biography was included in ‘Marquis Who’s Who in the World’ 2007,2008,2009. She has been awarded Fellowship of Indian Public Health Association and Indian Association of Preventive&Social Medicine.
